Paddy Update

Hello all,

Sally here - I finally got control of the computer again after all this drama in our house.  We were really worried about Paddy, me included - I went to visit him at the hospital - and was so happy to see him I gave a few licks and made him fall over - I felt bad but I was happy to see him.  I act a bit silly with him sometimes - but I secretly quite like him.  SSSShhhhh - don't tell him though...

Well, all tests confirm Paddy suffered from Pancreatitis (I had to look that one up) - so he is on a very plain diet - and D has been besides herself making sure he doesn't supplement his diet!  This is not easy with Paddy - we caught him trying to eat a log, nettles, some horse manure.... you get the picture.   D wants to buy Paddy a large hamster ball - so she can roll him about and he can eat nothing and no one can hurt him.  I said he would have no life if he was a boy in a bubble - but she would feel calmer...But here he is in the park trying to get his Border terrier pal Oscar to play with him - using the Paddy stare...

The bad news - is that I am eating a plain diet too!  No treats, no table scraps, no nothing!!!  D sometimes secretly feeds me my treats behind his back - so he doesn't feel bad he doesn't have what I have...

But we have been worried sick about him and D hasn't stopped watching over him - even I have been nice to him.  But he is still on a regime of rest and relaxation - he seems to be settling with his digestion.  So paws crossed we can keep that going furever!

Here he is sleeping on his favourite blankie....

He has had some pleasant dreams lately - I wonder if it has anything to do with dreams of the lovely nurses - I told Paddy about what wonderful nurses Asta, Agatha and Asta down under are - and trainees Koobie and Lacie - the thought of them keeping him company really cheered him up.  Every time he hears a blender - his tail seems to wag more....  well, I am sure that is a smile on his face...

We wanted to let everyone know that we are so thankful for our great friends and for all the support we have been shown.  D and I will be going round the blogs and thanking everyone in person - the power of the paw prevailed!

We are using the next few days for Paddy intensive treatment - lots of fun and relaxation - plus we are planning a beach trip!  But we are not going to let him free in case he tries to run to Scotland again!

Lots of licks

  1. Tank woo fur the pupdate!

  3. Good news, Sally. Many thanks for the update.

  4. Mom and I have been thinking about Paddy and we are so glad he is doing ok now. That was a scare. I am sorry that your diet is boring right now, I hope that improves soon. I love the Paddy . Rest sweet Paddy and please don't eat anything bad for your tummy, your family needs rest too I think.

    licks and sniffs, Sasha

  5. Woohoo! Way to go, Paddy! Now... follow the doctor's orders. AND the nurses'. All of them.

We're happy to hear you are getting better!

    Wirey best wishes,
    Jake and Fergi

  6. Oh hooray for Paddy. Sally I know you'll take good care of him.

I left you both an award on my blog, so stop by!

  7. Hi Sally,
This is Sally Ann from America. We have similar names. I am so happy to hear that Paddy is alive and well. Mommy was worried that he wasn't doing well. If you Mommy can find some, try esiac tea. It helps with all sorts of immune stuff. Well, be a good big sister, and take care of your baby brother.
    Sally Ann

  8. The poor bubba is so lucky to have a sis like you. A plain diet doesn't sound too flash hot but sometimes you just have to compromise for the better. Good luck!
    Inky and Molly

  9. We're so glad to see Paddy on his feet again. It's a bummer that you have to eat a plain diet with him...not fair...but it's nice of you to show support for your brother. I bet your parents are worried sick over Paddy, so it might be best to cooperate.

Paddy's shaved belly reminds me of the many times T-man Angel came home from the hospital looking like that. It's a bittersweet time, full of worry. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon.

  10. Glad to hear that Paddy is doing better. Maybe your Mom can sneak you treats when Paddy is napping or something!

    Woodrow - Sweetie - MJ

  18. Paddie, get better soon! Bland diets are no fun... manure sure is a lot more interesting, but we all want you to feel better.

  19. Geez it's great ta see that Paddy has recovered a bit but he still looks a little under the weather....hope his new diet agrees with him and he can regain his's great news that he is home....

    Dewey Dewster here...

  20. Sally - I am so pleased to read Paddy is doing ok!

Me and my Jeannie know a lovely labrador called Chester who has the unprounounceable Pacreaaaatius (and unspellable!)

Chester is doing fine now, just as long as he keeps on a very plain diet, no snacks etc just like you say. He has lost weight, but he was overweight to start with, so it has done him good. He is a fine healthy lump of a fellow, and full of life. So please don't worry, it will get better once he gets stablised.

Have you thought about a muzzle for when you are out and about? Friends of ours have a muzzle on their lab when he goes out, not because he is dangerous or anything, but because he eats everything in sight, and they wanted to let him off lead.

Funny enough we met him this morning, and he is doing fine as well.

glad to read all is getting better.

We are late commenting, it is taking time to catch up after our hols.

    lotsaluv, Marvin and Jeannie xxxxx

  22. Pancreatitis is very painful, I hear. I guess they shaved his tum-tum to do an ultrasound? It makes him look like he's lost weight! I'm sure he'll be glad to grow his wiry hair back. You're a very good nurse and sissy to see that he's rests as much as he can. We all hope Paddy is back to his old self again soon. :)

    Happy Tails,
    William Tell

  24. Hi Sally, what a special sissy helping Paddy. Yeah that bland diet sucks, poor Paddy no more poopie. That poops. He looks kind of cute (in a manly way) on his crochet blankie. Did D make it for him? It's pawsome. Guess I better tippey toe off so as not to wake him but I'm wagging that he's so much better. Thats made all of us in SDH very happy!'

Wiry love and kisses Eric xx

  25. Oh Sally....we know you're doin' a marvelous job with Paddy's diet...bland...hmmm...maybe Paddy and I should GO ON A DATE so the poor dog can get a little spice in his life....

Let us know when ur back from ur beach vacation...tell Paddy that he's not to be eating any of that stinky seaweed, Kay??

I have a pawfect new rice smoothie that has a little vanilla flavoring...perhaps he'd might enjoy that!!!

    Miss you guys!!!

    Love and kisses...Laciegirlie

  26. Hey Sally,
We're so happy Paddy is doing better now. He should do just fine with his special diet. Since Papa had pancreatitis years ago, he just had to watch his diet & he has never had an episode again. Hmmmmm, that will be fun to train him NOT to eat the manure, hehehehe! Snickers & I still try to nab some deer doodoo now & then. Sure makes Mama mad at us!
    Luv & Wirey Hugs,
Butchy, Snickers, Ruby, Sylvester & Scuby
