The Call of the Boot Sale

Hello fellow Bloggers,

We have been busy this week - although we hate being left at home  - accompanying D can be tiring sometimes.  On Sunday we went to several Boot Sales - it was an early start 5:30 AM!  For my pals over the pond - a Boot Sale is like a Garage/Yard sale - but everyone drives to a large field open up their trunks/Boots and sells things.  Lots of clothes and kids toys - but lots of collectibles and every so often an antique.  D is addicted to Boot Sales - in fact she cannot pass one without going in.   If she hasn't gone to one at least in a week - she starts to get the shakes.

This is a view from our car overlooking a Boot Sale:

The cars are all lined up - row upon row upon row.... the selling is in the distance - they are popular so we end up parking a little ways away.  Well, we spent almost 2 hours at one Boot sale - we were very tired - well I was tired - Paddy seems to run on batteries....

The good thing about Boot Sales is that we get BAD food for being GOOD Dogs - we both got the end of the ice creams - this is a photo of Paddy finishing his off - I ate mine too fast for that flashy thing to take my picture...

Now we can't show you everything D bought - because that would take days - but we did think we should show you this lovely board game....

We aren't sure how to play it - but it comes with little bone cards and 4 little plastic Scottie Terriers - maybe the Rocky Creek Scotties can teach us....

D is always finding weird and wonderful things - sadly C is not as enthused and has caught D trying to sneak things into the house - he did scream once when he saw she tried to 'hide' two steamer trunks in the garage.

On a separate note - D and C were not sure how Paddy reacts to loud noises - so when it was predicted that we would have thunder storms - they prepared themselves for the worst.  I run and hide and take refuge in my 'safe' place.  This is how Paddy dealt with the nasty thunder storm...

We hope he reacts the same way to fireworks ...

I have some footage for Whack-a-Squirrel - but my typist is having some 'technical' difficulties - so bare with us.  Suffice it to say, our garden is a squirrel free zone!

D is going to be very busy in the next couple of weeks - so although we will read your blogs - we may not comment on them right away - hope you understand - we will be back soon!

Lots of licks
Sally

P.S. Paddy is doing well - he has a scar - but no long term effects - D cannot say the same - she still gets jumpy when a dog comes running over.  We think she needs more Merlot medication!

  1. ooooooooh my Jeannie is addicted to boot sales toooooo! And Charity shops...........

We loved the board game you got! That looked a very good quality boot sale, some of ours around here are very poor just lately.

My J got a whole Wedgewood tea set, which was very pretty, a few years back, for just a few pounds. And some lovely painted mirros too.

She could go on and on..........

I am pleased Paddy is feeling so much better! Jeannie says Merlot Medication is good, and also Chardonnay can help tooooooooo

  2. Our Mom would love to find a game like that!!! She thinks it is sooooo cute. Mom - stop drooling on the computer.

Boot sales look like fun - much easier than driving from place to place for garage sales.

Glad to hear Paddy is feeling better. That Merlot medication seems to do the trick every time.

  3. Yup..muzzer says when she is in the UK, charity shops and boot sales win out over museums most any day. Somewhat inhibited by having to ship stuff home, she has also been known to give some "unusual" gifts to the hostess! Drives our dad nuts too.

Will Recommend the Merlot Medication to E.Rabbit's friend who is also Raven's mom.

    We will miss you
    come back soon

  4. Hi Sally - boot sales huh? I've heard it said that one dog's trash is another dog's treasure!

Glad Paddy is okay. He certainly doesn't seem to be having any trouble sleeping.

And yes... Merlot is good medicine. Keep some handy.

  8. Hello there!

We be the Dog WOods Pack!

We have one new dog that's scared of storms in our Pack. He'd start pacing and won't eat. But since he's arrived he's coping a little better realising that the rest of us Dog Woods Pack are not really bothered with storms.

I guess the CHief not giving him more than the usual attention we all get during normal non stormy days is begining to work!

  9. Well - seems like to dessert would make the boot sales worth the experience!!!!

Of course you guys were good dogs....we think you need to have a walking dessert treat giver...all that walking = exhausting.....

C should not be cross with D - she just might find a valuable treasure and you guys could retire to the country.......

Paddy - you "COOL HAND LUKE" just like Paul Newman....relaxed under pressure...

  15. Ohhh... Moma loves those kind of sales. Used to be she'd find lots of wirey related stuff. Not so much recently.

More importantly, we hope Paddy can publish his thunderstorm management techniques. He could make a million. And we'll buy his book, for sure. (Is he deaf?)

  17. Sweet Sal Gal!

My girl also goes CRAZY for garage/yard sales. Even if she is not looking for anything in particular, she loves to be a voyeur to other people's lives and things. She too is a fan of the steamer trunk. We have several around our house.

We are just now catching up with your most recent posts and are STINKIN' UPSET about what happened to Paddy at the Greenwich Market. I'm thinking that it is sad for that dog who attacked Paddy that his owner is so ignorant and irresponsible. Eventually that dog will have to pay. But, we are happy that Paddy is recovering nicely. If you want, I'd be happy to send a nice steaming pile of goober poo to the manager of the market & his friend.

We will miss you while D is doing her thing, and can't wait to hear what you've been up to!

    Goober love & smooches,
    Stanley

  23. Dear Sally and Paddy,

How did you sneak around and find out our address? - You must be good detectives. I have a feeling that 2 certain airedales were involved.

That game is too cute - we'll be blogging about tomorrow. Thank you so much. You are so sweet. And it is a wonderful surprise.

  28. Dear Sally and Paddy,

It was great to see you had stopped by our little blogspot. We've missed you. We were just wishing a bunch of us could go to some boot sales, garage sales, antique shops, street faris - anything like that - together. And end it off with a nice Merlot. Lots of us like those two things... so why not enjoy them in each others' company.

    Loving wags,
    MIss Fergi and Jake
